The EP was inspired by early 70s Miles Davis/Teo Macero recording and editing techniques, Brian Eno’s ideas on 'composer as gardener', and ‘Spack in the Box’ – a TikTok star and YouTube drummer with cerebral palsy.

Initial live drums were recorded with 'Spack in the Box’ as the basis for a series of improvisations by various players (including members of Squid and Pelican Man). The aim was to create situations where unexpected musical ideas could emerge and then evolve with the successive contributions of each musician. The beats were looped but never quantised (digitally ‘tidied up’), placing an emphasis on the unpredictability and uniqueness of Spack’s grooves. These recordings were then used as raw material for the project and reconfigured into a dense bricolage. The result is a sound rich with detail and forking stylistic paths.

The music nods to 70s psychedelic jazz and downtempo electronica, evoking a kind of paranoiac lounge muzak. There are distorted hauntological echoes and fake memories of jazz clubs, late 90s chillout rooms, and catwalk electronica as if filtered through the postwar
European Avant-Garde.
